sick in bed is no excuse - this update is for you!

Unfortunately, I spent the entire weekend in bed with a fever. The good thing, however, is that friends and neighbors really look after one another here so everyday someone brought me over juice, ice cream, fruit, and other stuff that sick people like to eat.

About Tuesday of last week I thought that I might be coming down with something so in efforts to take preventive measures I went to the Nagashima Clinic to get some medicine. The doctor gave lots of medicine so I took it. Then I got really sick!

I recently had a conversation with one of my badminton teammates and it went something like this:

Teammate: Spencer, did you see our new team shirts?

Me: The ones with volleyballs on them, right?

T: Yes, those. Aren’t they great? They are athletic shirts too so they are good for playing sports.

Me: Oh, they seem really nice, but aren’t we on a badminton team? If we play badminton then why do they have pictures of volleyballs on them?

T: Because we all have the same shirt. That’s why they are the team shirt.

Me: Okay, but why a volleyball?

T: Ah. . . I don’t know.

Me: Okay, I get it now . . . ( I didn't get it)

Do you remember the Virgin Mary grilled cheese sandwich that sold it on eBay for $28,000 bucks? The lady that made the sandwich in 1994 was Diane Duyser from Florida and she kept it for 10 years before putting it up on eBay for internet casino Golden Palace to purchase. She was quoted as saying that in 10 years the sandwich never went moldy. She even owes her 70,000 dollar casino winnings to the mystical powers of the Virgin Mary grilled cheese sandwich.

Back in 2004 I remember thinking that I too wanted a mystical sandwich that would bring me good luck and fortune. In the back of my head, however, I knew that stuff like that just didn’t happen for average guys like me. My hopes of such a discovery slowly faded away and eventually I even forgot about the mystical sandwich.

Yesterday, however, as fate would have it I too made a discovery. While it isn’t a grilled cheese sandwich that I found, it’s a close second. I came across a mystical potato. That’s right, a magical potato. Now, you must take my scouts honor (I was a cub scout) that I have not in anyway edited this photo in anyway. This, my friends, is the real deal. I’m sure something good will happen to me soon enough and when it does we will know for sure that this isn’t just any potato. The only thing is that I’m not really sure who it is on my potato, but that small detail will come soon enough. Perhaps you can even help me out with that and then we’ll put it up on eBay and ½ the winnings will be yours.

While in Tokyo I came across some Tide laundry detergent at the store. With today’s exchange rate that’s going to set you back about 25 dollars!!

Lastly, the video is really short, but I still think it is worth showing off. For those interested in what went on at the Tokyo Re-Contracting Conference then have a look at this video. In one seminar I listened to this same lady for 3 hours. What do you think?

~ You thought you could get away without seeing another picture of the veggies!
