All I want for Christmas is my ♪♪♪
Christmas morning for Koko and I began with eating Christmas Eve lasagna leftovers and listening to Sufjan Stevens’ Songs for Christmas on the stereo. Later that evening we planned on celebrating Christmas with Koko’s family so after we packed our bags we headed out the door for Yamanashi, about two hours by train from Tokyo city. On our way out, however, we made one stop at the hospital to congratulate Koko’s dentist and pervious part-time employer on the birth of her newly born baby boy.
Before arriving to the hospital Koko and I joked with one another about asking her dentist if she wouldn’t mind taking a look at one of my teeth for recently I had noticed that I might have a cavity. At the time we weren’t actually being serious as we didn’t really plan on asking, but after arriving at the hospital to find both new mom and baby in great condition and full of energy we decided to go ahead and ask anyways. She was happy to help and after looking she agreed that perhaps it was a cavity. She suggested that we call her husband, also a dentist, and have him take a closer look. So, we did.
Luckily for us, he had just finished seeing a patient and had an open 3o minutes before his next appointment so as long as we could make it to his office in time he said he would take a look. Once we had arrived and after he looked at my tooth he quickly confirmed that sure enough, it was a cavity. The good news was that because it didn’t look too big he assured me he could fill it in no time. I was unpleasantly surprised, however, to learn that speedy was synonyms with not using anything to numb my mouth before drilling. Although a little apprehensive at first I trusted his authority and we went for it. Fortunately, it didn’t hurt nearly as bad as I anticipated, but really I don’t recommend it. ![]()
Once he had finished filling my cavity he asked if Koko and I would stay around until he saw his next patient for he wanted to treat us to lunch. As we waited for him to finish we played video games with his daughter and once he was ready we all went to ASPARAGUS, a fancy little Italian restaurant down the street. I ordered the white sauce clamshell pasta and Koko had the Chicken parmesan. It was delicious! After lunch, we thanked him for his dental assistance and he thanked us for visiting his newborn baby. We then bowed, shook hands for good measure, and parted our separate ways. After all, it was Christmas and we had a train to catch. Once we boarded the express train and found our seats I took a deep breath and gazed out the window brushing my tongue across my newly repaired tooth. As I watched the busy streets rapidly pass and immediately disappear I began humming to myself, All I want for Christmas is my cavity filled, my cavity filled, see my cavity filled, All I want for Christmas is my cavity filled. . .
