The Great Buddha of Kamakura

|

While visiting Tokyo over the holidays I took a day trip to Kanagawa to get a first hand look at The Great Buddha of Kamakura. Standing 13.35 meters tall this gigantic Buddha is the second largest in Japan (the largest is located in Nara, Japan.) This bronze Buddha was originally cast in 1252 inside a giant temple to ensure it's protection, but in the 15th century the temple was destroyed during a tsunami leaving only Buddha unharmed. Today the Kamakura Buddha still remains standing for everyone to enjoy and it truly is a spectacular sight to see. I recommend that you experience it for yourself, but until then I took a picture to hold you over. kamakura.jpg
