yozakura with the snowboarding club.
Members of the snowboarding club recently got together in Kagoshima City for an evening barbeque in the park to enjoy the Japanese cherry blossoms alongside one river that flows through the center of the city. Flower viewing or “hanami” occurs widespread across Japan by people of all ages between late March and early May. It’s so popular that regardless of where you go if there are cherry blossoms blooming someone is likely to be sitting under the trees having a picnic.
When “hanami” is done at night it’s called “yozakura” or night cherry blossom and this is typically when everyone too busy working during the day gets out to relax after work eating and drinking late into the evening.
Our snowboarding club had a nearby restaurant cater our party which meant that the lights, grills, food, and drinks were prepared for us in advance so all we had to do was literally show up and eat. It was a blast and everyone had a great time!
